ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - You can weigh in on the potential to develop places to work, shop, and live around MetroLink stations as the next step in the East-West Gateway Coordinating Council study.

Tonight is the second of five open house meetings on the matter.

Britt Palmberg with Hudson and Associates conducted the Transit Oriented Development Study, paid for with a $525,000 grant. Palmberg says researchers found that the market is there for development around MetroLink stops.

“The one thing we want to discuss with the city about is what that development will look like and how much makes sense around these stations,” he said.

Palmberg readily admits that MetroLink is not a silver bullet for development nor can he say it is the sole reason for development. But he says transit is one factor in the residential development around the Emerson Park stop.

“We’re not calling for some massive sea change in the way people live in St. Louis but I think the best finding of the study is that there are opportunities to change patterns here in a certain location,” he added.

Palmberg says preliminary plans will be shown and reaction and input sought from those in attendance. Tonight’s meeting will take place at the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Center. A presentation will be given at 6 p.m.
